Shooting own project vs letting others shoot yours

So, I've written this script, and it's pretty good. It's that dream project I've talked about here, where I think I need like 500-800 euros for.

Now, I've also send a query letter to a production company (http://www.revolver.nl) and they'd like to read my script.

So basically, I really want to shoot this myself. But the project is really big, and it will be hard for us (my production group) to do.

If I send them the script, and they'd really like it, they'd probably want to shoot it themselves. If they really like it, I might be able to demand the directing postion or something. But anyways, they seem like a bunch of professionals, they've good good equipment, so the project will be off in good hands if it goes there.

I do think it has a better chance getting made there. But then again, if we'd make this flick, with some finance and all, we'd definetely gain a shitload of experience and maybe even gain some recognition.

But I came here to ask thee for advice.

Make it yourself.
It might have a better chance with them, but it woudnt really be yours.

I don't really know how much Euros translates into pounds, but 800 doesn't sound that much-If I was putting that much money into a film, I wouldn't hesitate to let you direct-That's unless the production company is a really small company is well.

Should we assume you meant 1/2 million to 800,000 thousand dollars?

The gutsy way to play is to attach yourself as the director so they understand your intentions before they ask to see the script. Many places may simply turn you down without seeing the script because of you being attached as the director, which is why it's a gutsy way to go.

Other options involve demanding a higher writing fee if you can't direct it. Say you want $50,000 thousand dollars as a writing fee if you don't direct it, or combo out the writing and directing fee for $40,000 grand total.

What I did was read the query column on wordplayer.com and used the tips and advice on there. Sort of followed the common 'rules'. Still feel like my synopsis sucked though. It probably did.
